The Rev. Sudie Niesen Thompson joined the staff of Westminster Presbyterian Church in January 2016 after serving two congregations in the Philadelphia area. At Westminster, she staffs the Church in the World and Membership & Evangelism Committees, supports small group ministry, and crafts the Living Mosaics worship service.
Sudie is a graduate of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 2012), where she fell in love with Biblical Studies and became a self-declared “Hebrew Nerd.” She went on to nurture this passion at Princeton Theological Seminary, where she earned a Master of Theology (Old Testament concentration) in May 2016. Sudie delights in delving into the stories of Scripture and bringing them into conversation with our own stories as people of faith.
A cradle Presbyterian, Sudie grew up in the church. Although she first considered ministry as a teenager, it was not until her year as a Presbyterian Church (USA) Young Adult Volunteer in India that she discerned a call to ministry. It was there that she realized the church’s unique calling to participate in Christ’s work in the world...and Sudie was determined to be a part of it! She is grateful to serve a congregation that strives to be faithful to this calling.
Sudie is married to The Rev. Brenton Thompson, who serves as pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Limerick, Pennsylvania. They live in Phoenixville, PA with their cats, Calvin and Oliver. When not at their respective churches, you might find the (Niesen) Thompsons enjoying local restaurants or the arts, reading good books, playing board games with friends, or dreaming about their next travel destination. Sudie is also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and an amateur Yogi.
