Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40 days of Lent. During Lent, we prepare for Easter by entering a period of self-reflection and prayer. The purpose of the season is to set aside time for reflection on the life of Christ and his place in our lives, as individuals and as a community. We will mark the beginning of the Lenten season with a special worship experience on Ash Wednesday, February 17, at 6:00 p.m. The liturgy of Taizé worship is primarily for the worship of God, but it is also to quiet the soul through repetition of music, periods of silence, candlelight and readings. The experience focuses and deepens our faith through quiet and, at times, silent reflection. Following worship, you are invited to a delicious soup supper in Community Hall.

When a loved one dies, life changes forever. Society expects us to simply move on. However, grief is a journey and healing takes time. If grief has invaded your life, or that of a friend, consider Living with Loss, a 10-week education and support group at Westminster. Rev. Anne Ledbetter will lead this group Sundays from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m., February 21 - May 2. Using Understanding Your Grief by Alan Wolfelt Ph.D., we will reflect on symptoms of grief and the journey toward healing. Cost is $30.00 and non-church members are welcome. On Thursday, February 18 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., Westminster member Jim Mitchell and his counselor Keith Kaut will speak in Rodney Chapel on recognizing and overcoming addiction. Every family has been affected by addiction and this program promises to present pertinent information and resources for recovery. Plan to attend this important program on overcoming addiction, and bring a friend or loved one!

Westminster's Movie Night will return on Friday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m. with the beautiful film, Departures, winner of 10 Japanese Academy Prizes as well as the 2009 Oscar for Best Foreign Language film. Join us for this upcoming movie night in Grace Hall, and feel free to stay for a short group discussion. Popcorn and drinks provided.
