How are climate changes impacting Delaware and our neighboring states now? What changes should we expect in the future? How will agriculture be impacted, and what about wetland and beach loss? What will the impact be on historically overburdened and under-served communities?
Delaware’s General Assembly passed significant climate legislation in June. The legislation sets greenhouse reduction goals of 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions versus 2005 emissions by 2030, and net zero emissions by 2050. What changes should we expect from this legislation? Dustyn and Marissa will help us understand the climate changes Delaware is going to experience, environmental justice issues created and worsened by climate change, and how the State is addressing climate changes through legislation and regulation.
Dustyn Thompson, Chapter Director, joined the Delaware Chapter of the Sierra Club in July 2019. He has worked in the Delaware political world since 2015. Dustyn believes that Delaware can become a leader in the fight for more renewable energy and environmental justice through collaboration and coalition building.
Marissa McClenton, Environmental Justice Associate Organizer, holds a BA in Environmental Studies from the University of Delaware. Growing up surrounded by the outdoors in North Carolina, Arizona, and Delaware has molded her love for nature and how folks engage with it in their daily lives.
