Sunday, February 23, 2025
10:40 – 11:30 a.m.
Classroom 6 and Zoom

This class will examine issues of enforced and involuntary disappearance, detention, and mass graves within the Palestinian West Bank context. The presenter returned in September 2024 from a trip to the West Bank, Jordan, and northern Iraq, where they carried out ongoing research on recent missing persons events and surviving family members’ experiences around detention and disappearance.

The class will:

  • Detail the situation for detained and disappeared persons in the West Bank
  • Situate state policies of disappearance and detention within an historical, century-long framework, as well as a regional context
  • Discuss what these events mean for families of the missing
  • Examine the impacts of missing persons events on communities and state formation
  • Discuss their role within the current conflict and their implications for regional peace
