Peace and Justice Education Event: A People’s Journey, A Nation’s Story

May 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursday, May 8, 2025
7–8 p.m. on Zoom

Video and discussion

Come learn about the creation of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. President  Hoover approved a commission to create such an institution, but it never received funding. In 2003, Congress approved and President George W. Bush signed legislation allocating $17 million to plan the museum and choose a site, on the National Mall. An inverted step pyramid encased in a bronze screen, it references historic iron grilles from African American communities in Charleston and New Orleans, rising five stories into the air and reaching equally deep underground. Share your stories of experiencing this powerful memorial. Hosted by Westminster’s Peace & Justice Work Group.
