Peace and Justice Education Event: What is the August Quarterly?

August 22 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

EVENT CHANGE – CLEAN SLATE PROGRAM POSTPONED

Thursday, August 22, 2024
7-8 p.m. on Zoom

The August Quarterly Festival is an annual celebration to commemorate the founding of the Union Church of Africans, the first African American Church, independently incorporated in 1813, in the United States. Simply put, the festival stands as a historic testament to African American religious freedom and self-determination. The August Quarterly, which began in 1814, became a kind of Independence Day for Black people on the Delmarva Peninsula. Over the years, it has remained a time of reunion, religious revival and celebration of freedom for the people in and around Wilmington, Delaware. Join us as we learn about this annual weeklong celebration. Hosted by Westminster’s Peace & Justice Work Group.
