Peace and Justice Education Event: Code Orange – Cooling Centers in Wilmington

July 20, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursday, July 20
7 p.m. on Zoom

With Kim Eppehimer, Executive Director, Friendship House

Heat leads to more deaths in the United States than any other weather-related cause. It can also lead to dehydration, fatigue, heat stroke, or exacerbate many other illnesses, from asthma to kidney disease. Friendship House is pleased to announce calling Code Orange: emergency daytime shelter when it is excessively hot outside. Because Friendship House already has Monday through Friday accessible locations, they are focusing Code Orange on weekends to fill a critical gap in our community. Kim Eppehimer, Executive Director, and Stacey Henry, community advocate and cofounder of the Wilmington Resilience Hub, will share why this service is so needed, what Code Orange is, and how you can help. Hosted by Westminster’s Peace & Justice Work Group.
