Peace and Justice Education Event – In the Dead Fire’s Ashes: The Lynching a Town Forgot

August 3, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursday, August 3, 2023
7 p.m. on Zoom

Video and discussion facilitated by Sue Linderman

Join us as we watch and discuss a critically acclaimed 40-minute video on the history of Wilmington that culminated in the 1903 lynching of George White. This event, which prominently featured a local Presbyterian pastor and was nationally publicized at the time, disappeared from view until it resurfaced as a result of the efforts of Sanford School student Savannah Shepherd in 2018, following her visit to the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum in Montgomery, AL. Several WPC Peace & Justice Work Group members attended the placement of the historical marker at the lynching site near Prices Corner, a marker that was stolen and subsequently replaced. Hosted by Westminster’s Peace & Justice Work Group.
