Peace and Justice Education Event: Reparations – A System of Redress for Egregious Injustices
August 31, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Thursday, August 31
7 p.m. on Zoom
With Coby Owens, Wilmington City Council Task Force Chair
The issue of reparations for the legacy of slavery and state-sanctioned racial discrimination in the U.S. is not a new concept. Actions are being taken in jurisdictions across the country. In December 2022, Wilmington launched the City Council Reparations Task Force with nine members. The group was tasked with researching the First State’s complicated slave history and examining how African Americans in the state have been impacted by an economic legacy of slavery and systematic racism. Join us as Task Force Chair Coby Owens provides perspective on the issue of reparations, describes the work of the Task Force, and facilitates our discussion. Hosted by Westminster’s Peace & Justice Work Group.
