Peace and Justice Education Event: Whispers of Angels (Video and Discussion)

February 23, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursday, February 23
7 p.m. on Zoom

In conjunction with the February 19 events featuring Dr. Eileen Guenther

“Whispers of Angels” tells the story of the critical Eastern Line of the Underground Railroad. Dramatic narrative scenes, underscored with specially recorded period music, and interviews with top scholars explore themes of courage and racial cooperation in the years leading up to the Civil War. This poignant film focuses on the collaboration between white Quaker Abolitionist Thomas Garrett and William Still, a free, black anti-slavery activist. Their effort to help “conduct” thousands of fugitives to freedom, with the help of the legendary Harriet Tubman, is at the center of this story about the “corridor of courage” that stretched from Maryland’s Eastern Shore through Delaware to the streets of Philadelphia and ever north. Hosted by Westminster’s Peace & Justice Work Group.
